Oracle Java 8

The directions below describe how to show the Java Console for Web Start applications.

  1. Run javaws with the "-viewer" switch and no other arguments:
    • $ $JAVAHOME/bin/javaws -viewer
    • This should launch both the Java Control Panel and the Java Cache Viewer (this is the console you can use to delete temp files). Java 8 Cache Viewer
    • It is likely that the Java Cache Viewer will open on top of the Java Control Panel.
  2. You don't need the Java Cache Viewer for now, so close it by clicking on the "Close" button.
  3. In the Java Control Panel, select the "Advanced" tab. Java 8 Control Panel
  4. Under the "Debugging" heading, turn on all of the options.
  5. Under the "Java console" heading, select "Show console".
  6. Click on the "OK" button to exit the Java Control Panel.
